Problem (missing sound; distortions) Recording in Audacity

Hi!

I used to love recording directly in Audacity using the microphone in my Laptop. Sound Quality was great and it was easy. With new release for some reason it is dropping sound at about the 5 second mark (that is, no sound is recorded), and after that time the sound quality is distorted. I have tried different audio host settings, different mic settings… has anyone else had this problem? Do you know how to fix it? Below is a screen shot. I was making a constant tone, but between the 4 & 6 second mark the sound drops!

The problem is most likely caused by Windows Sound “Enhancements” (you need to turn off all of the “Enhancements”).
