Audacity is a spyware?

Hi there,
Apologies if I post on the wrong thread. Not sure where to ask this question.

This link has been circling around among our podcasting community members:

https://fosspost.org/audacity-is-now-a-spyware/

Can anyone help to clarify this and what we should do?

The “fuss” is about the Privacy Notice that has been published on the Audacity website on 2nd July 2021:
You can find the notice here: https://www.audacityteam.org/about/desktop-privacy-notice/

The management have recently said that it will be updated soon, to clarify and address some of the concerns that have been raised.

If you are concerned about this privacy notice, it may be worth comparing it with some common ones that are accepted every day:

On this forum, we only have access to policy information that is in the public domain. We have no role in deciding company policy.
This forum exists for the sole purpose of helping members of the Audacity community to use Audacity software effectively.

Up to, and including the current Audacity 3.0.2, Audacity software has no network code and is incapable of connecting to the Internet.
If you are uncomfortable with, or disagree with the new Audacity privacy notice, then you can continue using Audacity 3.0.2, or any earlier version, in the knowledge that it does not, and is incapable of sending any information to the Internet.

If you have any questions or comments, or if you wish to exercise your data protection rights, please contact us via privacy@AudacityTeam.org.

I am closing this topic as this is all the information that we have at this time, and in the strict sense it is “off-topic” for this forum.
