Compressor Effect Causes Audio to Shift

Post by mafg1953 » Fri Mar 05, 2021 1:04 am

Hi,

I am running Win 10 and am testing 3.0.0 RC04.

I reset the Configuration before I started this. Basically I opened some audio, duplicated it, and then created a label track. The label track identified the first few seconds of the audio as room tone and the remainder of the track as the Full Track. What I wanted to do is apply the Compressor Effect to the Full Track excluding the Room Tone. So I selected the duplicate audio track and then clicked in the Label "Full Track" which just selected the "Full Track" section of the audio in the duplicate track. Then I applied the Compressor Effect and as you can see, the audio in the duplicate track shifted towards the beginning of the track but seems to be more in line with the original track towards the end of the audio.

I did try this in 2.4.2 and did not have this problem. I have been using this approach for a while in 2.4.2 and it has been working fine.

Any ideas? Thanks,

Mike

Just an FYI, it seems to do the same thing if I just select a portion of the audio in the duplicate track with the mouse. But if I select the full track, it doesn't happen.

I can confirm this. Thanks for the report. I've raised this with the developers.

Great catch Mike :) 8-)

I have logged this as P1 Bug #2687
https://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2687
Compressor with selection to end of track can cause corruption

Many thanks for the testing and the report.

Peter.
