Spectogram View Scale changes when I use Punch/Paste

Post by mafg1953 » Fri Feb 26, 2021 1:05 am

Hi,

I've been testing out version 3.0.0 and it is working quite well - thanks for all the work you put into it.

I did come across an issue when using Spectogram view and Punch/Paste. I do editing with either Spectogram view or Multi-View turned on with a Logarithmic range of 60Hz to 10000Hz. If I use the effect Punch/Paste, the Spectogram scale changes to 1 to 22,050. The edit gets done properly, but I lose the perspective on the waveform as I definitely don't need that wide of a range. In V 2.4.2, that does not happen.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi again,

The same thing happens if I highlight some audio and use the Generate>Silence feature.

I can't reproduce this with 3.0.0rc03 (Feb 24) on a 2019 iMac with macOS 10.15.7. I don't have the punch/paste plug-in installed but when I generate silence into a track in spectrogram view the spectrogram settings don't change.

In the track spectrogram settings is "Use Preferences" checked? Are your track spectrogram settings different from Spectrograms Preferences?

I can't reproduce this on W10 with 3.0.0 RC03

I can't reproduce this issue on Linux with 3.0.0 rc03, but I do occasionally see that there's something peculiar happening.

I can't reproduce this either.

Are the settings changed after this happens? I.e. does something cause the settings to change, or is Audacity drawing to the wrong settings?

Can you make a more minimal example?
- e.g. can sync-lock be off, and just one track?
- is multi-view necessary for this to happen, or can it happen with just a spectrogram?

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm using Win 10 and V 3.0.0 rc 03.

I'm going to reset my preferences and try it again to see if that helps and what I might have done to get this to happen. If I run the "same" preferences on V 2.4.2, it works fine.

If it's not too late, make a backup copy of your preference files before resetting.

Thanks for the reminder Steve - I did make a backup - lesson learned many many times!

It looks like the issue is that I had checked "Use half-wave display when collapsed" thinking it would save desktop space (but it doesn't). I unchecked it, and the issue with the resetting of the scale does not happen. I re-checked it and the issue does happen.

I also checked V 2.4.2 and the same issue arises when "Use half-wave display when collapsed" is checked.

Thanks for the feedback.

Mike
