Tag <import> on aup

Post by rafadess » Tue Oct 20, 2020 4:41 pm

Hello all,

I understand that with the new aup3 files the <import> feature of aup files will be gone. But I also saw that you are able to open an aup file using Audacity 3.

Question: What if the aup file has this import xml tag? Will Audacity 3 handle this import before converting the project to aup3?

I have built Audacity 3 and tested the above but it didn't work. I just want to know if this will be supported when we have the official release or it is something that will be dropped.

Thanks!

Rafa

Thanks a lot Rafa.

I've created a P1 bug for that https://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2569
Because it's P1 that means we have to fix that bug before we get to release candidates.

Do you have any other feedback on the 3.0.0 alpha?

Hi James,

I'm glad it was helpful, and also I'm very happy that you guys will support this import on version 3 :D

Honestly I haven't done many test on it, but so far so good. I'll let you guys know anything I find.

Thanks for your work!

Rafa

https://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2570
Compressed or Lossless copies of projects from 2.4.2 cannot be opened in 3.0.0

Update:

The work on both of these issues has been completed. Audacity 3.0.0 alpha now fully supports aliased data fails and Compressed or Lossless copies of projects.

Audacity 3.0.0 alpha now fully supports aliased data files
Audacity supports the opening of older AUP projects with aliased audio files - BUT it does this by importing the aliased file into the AUP3 project file - so when the AUP3 project file is saved it is self contained with copies of all the aliased files inside it and no longer aliased.

For 3.0.0 we have removed Compressed or Lossless copies of projects removing the two commands
File > Save Project > Save Lossless Copy of Project
File > Save Project > Save Compressed Copy of Project

Instead there is a new Backup Project command
File > Save Project > Backup Project

This is a lossless project file (it is just another AUP3 file) - but is not and cannot be compressed.

Thanks waxcylinder. Yes I meant in the context of the original question - Old "AUP" projects can now be opened / imported into Audacity 3.0.0, including those with alias file, "Compressed copy" project and "Lossless copy" projects.

We will need to work on precise wording so that this is clear in the release announcement ;)

For clarity, Audacity 3.0.0 has no equivalent of "Save compressed Copy of Project". However, you can losslessly compress an AUP3 project with standard utilities such as ZIP / WinZip / 7-Zip.

Again we'll have to work on clear and precise wording for the release notes.
