Does this audio sound right?

Good evening,

I am attaching audio both before and after I apply the filters. Does this sound right? I feel like it sounds off…

Here are the filters I am using

Noise reduction 6, 6.00, 6
Equalization > Select Curve: Low rolloff for speech, Length of Filter: about 5000 > OK.

RMS Normalize: Target RMS Level -20dB > OK.

Limiter: Soft Limit, 0, 0, -3.5dB, 10, No > OK.

It does. I’m trying to figure out why.

Unedited is right off the recording, right? No filters or corrections?

I got the clip to pass ACX and sound reasonable. I left out Noise Reduction. I think Noise Reduction is distorting the tones in your voice before the other tools even get to it.

Try it. Do what you did to the unedited clip skipping Noise Reduction. It passes ACX Check and sounds more balanced.

After I did that, the only thing I didn’t much like was the “essing” or frying SS sounds in your words. Oddly, the DeEssing tool didn’t help much. That’s why you can sense the “?” marks over my head.

I’m working on a custom filter to try and suppress that.

One other note. I cut off the extra silence at the end and one of the three seconds at the beginning. It’s not good to have too much room tone (background sound) in the clip. It throws off RMS Normalize.

I need to drop for a while.

Both Edited & unedited have a big bump in the spectrum at 2kHz …

This equalization “curve” gets rid of the bump …
