Background Hum

Ive been given an audacity file that I want to turn into a podcast. Unfortunately, it has a continuous hum in the background. Is there a way of eliminating this without reducing the volume of the actual talk?

Any help appreciated.

If it’s mains-hum, see … Missing features - Audacity Support
If other constant-pitch noise see … Spectral Selection and Editing - Audacity Manual

Or, you could post a 20 second mono or 10 second stereo example WAV clip to the forum. We may be able to tell you what the corrections are.

Note it’s not unusual for people to post when it’s Too Late. If you have interference so loud you can’t understand the words, it’s usually the end of the world. Those are not recoverable. Fix the hum and shoot it again.
