Help with eliminating some noises

I have two audio recordings of an interview - one has better quality, but has coughs in it (I’ll call it A1). The second has somewhat worse quality, but does not have the coughs in it (I’ll call it A2).


I would like to use the better audio file, but eliminate the coughs. Is there a function I can use to leverage A2 as a control track for when there should be audio in A1? (Put differently, is there a way to create silence in A1 where there is silence in A2).

A noise-gate where A2 is the control track: squelching A1 to silence when the envelope of A2 goes below a threshold.
or alternatively an envelope-follower, such as Steve’s dynamic-mirror plugin …
