Can you get real time echo in Audacity?

I've recorded a vote for what I think would come closest and easiest to what weiss24 was asking for. Not macro support (which Steve has already voted for) but a special button you could press that overdub recorded for twice (or greater) the length of the selection) then stopped and played from the end of the selection. That was what was asked for in the past for similar use cases. I don't think delayed software playthrough is necessary,
