64bit?
When will Audacity go x64?
Re: 64bit?
From the Audacity wiki:
Until Audacity makes much more use of multi-threading, there is little benefit to justify the time and effort required to offer a 64-bit version, especially as we would still need to provide a 32-bit version for those users with 32-bit operating systems / 32-bit processors.
That's a bit out of date as we no longer use VS 2008, but as far as I'm aware the comments regarding 64-bit still apply.Audacity is currently a 32-bit only application. It compiles fine on 64-bit versions of Windows using VS 2008, but is some way from being offered as a 64-bit application. A 32-bit limitation has been fixed for release in 2.0.6 that prevented loading projects where a clip contained 2^31 samples or more. However at least some other problems remain with such clips for example, incorrect display in Selection Toolbar.
Making Audacity 64-bit ready requires a comprehensive review of Audacity, not just fixing the many errors flagged by the compiler. It's a large task, and not currently a priority.

As you say that is outdated (and it says don't read below the yellow box).steve wrote:From the Audacity wiki
The most up-to-date information will be here:

It's not quite up-to-date in the sense that it is possible to install a 64-bit version of Audacity on Mac OS X using MacPorts, but Audacity does not officially support that. Such information should be confined only to Audacity Wiki, in my opinion.

Re: 64bit?
Linux has an x64 Audacity too, but none of my plugins are for Linux. I'll have to stick with x86.
