That is the usage that I think should be called "transport region"
OK, I'm fine with changing that after 2.1.0.

You mean "Play Region > Lock/Unlock"?
Currently that is a playback only feature - it is only locking the playback region and not the recording region.
I can think of many uses for locking the playback region, but have never encountered a need to lock the recording region - have you?
Yes I mean "Play Region > Lock/Unlock".
Although as you say, there is no Quick-Record, Play Region > Lock can lock the recording region if that locked region is the selection region, the same as it can lock the playback region (as currently called) if that selection is used for playback. Locking the Selection Region could be more useful than now if you could reselect a locked region after changing it.
Quick-Record and locking a Quick-Record region "could" be useful if you wanted to retain a selection region. I've not really thought about it.

I'm not quite following you.
Do you mean that "Play Region > Lock"
could "lock the recording region" (if we changed the current behaviour)?
Isn't it quite useful that "Lock Play Region" allows a "play" region to be saved while recording a different region (or doing anything else in a different selection)?

Well this particular piece of functionality is Vaughan's baby (IIRC he was commissioned to write it) - and he always intended into be a hands-off unattended recording - and these days I am minded to support that view.
I have spent some time today capturing some key TR GUI upgrade discussion points from this thread in the Wiki proposal - see:
http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Propo ... ts#Details
In particular I have come around to Gale's checkbox idea for setting automatic Save on/off.

I meant what I wrote, "can" (but it isn't all that useful). Drag a selection in the waves, then Edit > Play Region > Lock. Record, then the recording will be made in the locked region.

Definitely useful.
But what I was saying about the locked region is that you can't easily make a selection corresponding to it. It could be useful if the edges of the play region respected Boundary Snap Guides when dragging a selection.
