Willing but not able, sorry. Doing a "fade" is outside my comfort zone - it would take me way too long to figure out how to do it with the 2.1.x code base given all the possible meter combinations (combined, divorced, floating, vertical & horizontal). I also think it would be better to wait until the current code gets a good shakeout by the public - we know that there are still display bugs so any patch would rapidly become stale as the Developers work on these files.Gale Andrews wrote: Are you (Ed) willing to do a patch for plan A) (upper case) some time?

OK. Does it help if we drop the fade from the patch?Edgar wrote:Willing but not able, sorry. If no, don't let's have this epic thread produce nothing. Can we agree to write a proposal for this (probably with an associated Bugzilla enhancement issue)?

Re: "Show Clipping" Options
Not really. Either way (fading out or erasing completely after a set time period) requires doing something with a timer from within code which is being called on a timer event. That scares me (from a design point) especially since I have no way of debugging/testing on Mac (I am also hesitant to set up my only computer to dual-boot Linux/Windows).Gale Andrews wrote:OK. If one of the Proposal gurus wishes to turn this thread into one, it's all right with me; quite frankly though, I do not see much point in it as, IMHO, the Developers pay little or no attention to the Proposals.Gale Andrews wrote:Can we agree to write a proposal for this (probably with an associated Bugzilla enhancement issue)?

Re: "Show Clipping" Options
Some do, some don't. Some prefer to see a brief outline of a proposal as an "enhancement" issue on bugzilla. Others prefer to see the detail on the wiki. No reason not to do both and cross-reference them. The wiki is much better suited to handling the detail. Bugzilla is good as a summary that can be more easily tracked (but not good for long, detailed discussion).Edgar wrote:IMHO, the Developers pay little or no attention to the Proposals.

Re: "Show Clipping" Options
Linux could well break Windows booting (unless you install Ubuntu's WUBI which is a bit like installing an app in Windows).Edgar wrote:(I am also hesitant to set up my only computer to dual-boot Linux/Windows).
WUBI doesn't work with Windows 8 but I boot XP/7/8 and Ubuntu using "Easy BCD" (Windows app).
Ubuntu in situ upgrades don't always work very well so when I upgrade Ubuntu I just start over in the same partition. That breaks Windows boot, but Startup repair on the Win 7 CD gets me into Win 7 then I can fix the other Windows boots using Easy BCD.

BUMP
Is someone going to write a proposal for this - or develop the code?
Or do I just transfer this to the "In-Depth Feature Discussions Archive" section?

I think there are lots of good ideas here, and votes to be counted.waxcylinder wrote:BUMP

I'm moderately motivated to write a proposal, having spent so long on this topic, but that doesn't mean I will write it soon. I have writing the proposal on a ToDo list which also does not make it happen.
I would suggest you transfer this to "In-Depth" and link to it in PFR. Then at least it has a placeholder on Wiki.

And I'm assuming that this thread: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 20&t=83990
is related and needs a link in that Wiki PFR transfer - correct?
Peter.
