Thanks for the links. Another problem is that Adobe Audition has now changed to SESX files .

Again, there is no information about where your audio clips come from or even what video editor you are using.

I doubt anyone will implement what you are asking for in the near future unless you pay them, so it is probably better to focus on getting the audio out of the video editor if its audio editing capabilities are lacking. Can you solo the audio tracks in that video editor? If so, you could record them.

Well, I'm not after a solution to get a specific project from a specific software into Audacity, but instead I'm trying to figure out why no one has succeeded to use Audacity for anything else than editing native Audacity projects and for me the answer is that the bottleneck is on the Audacity side of things. And therefore Audacity will continue to be a wonderful, but isolated island in the sea of open source software.

Thanks, for taking your time to help me out on my quest. I'll leave it there for now.

Does this need vote(s) adding for LOF files? Or is this more complex than that?

Hmm, not sure how I missed this topic first time around, but anyway:

That is blatantly not true. Audacity is frequently used for editing WAV files, MP3 files, AIFF files, OGG Vobis files, FLAC files, WMA (non-DRM) files, VOB files, and so on.

I think what tintwotin is really asking for is for Audacity to support AAF project files. Considering that the AAF specification runs to over 130 pages and it is designed for the video post production and authoring environment, I doubt that the Audacity developers will see it as particularly high priority, but we can still record tintwotin's vote.

The other thing that tintwotin mentioned was expanding the LOF format to support multiple clips in the same track. Although LOF files are not widely used, I think this proposal has much better chance of being taken up, and I can see many possible spin-off benefits, so please add +1 from me.

Just a FYI:
I coded a py script to convert mlt to edl: https://eyeframeconverter.wordpress.com/mlt2edl/
(Mlt is the project format for the video editors Kdenlive, Flowblade and Shotcut).

This script could easily be changed to convert mlt to the Audacity LOF format or for that sake convert edl to the Audacity LOF format, so audio tracks exported from most video editors could be imported into Audacity as unconverted native projects, however that would still need the options to specify track number and in and out points of the clips in the LOF file format.

The current LOF options: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/lof_files.html
