Apply a filter, for example Equalization. Change the view to Waveform dB. Edit > Undo Equalization. The waveform view also reverts.

I thought it was just 2.0.3, but 2.0.5 does it, too.

Most (but not all) commands add the "current state" to the "History" stack.
Open "View > History" to see what is on the stack, and watch it as you apply commands.
Note that changing the track view does not add a new "current state" to the history stack. Do you want it to?

I was applying a tool that demanded I tell it dB values. Maybe the Noise Gate tool. I forget. I thought after a couple of cycles of missing a useful value that I should be watching the waves in dB.

Yes, I was expecting the view to stick, not revert. It could be said that the Edit > UNDO message is wrong, or that it doesn't match what actually happens.

I didn't do much more research than that.

There's a balance to be reached between putting too much and not enough on the History.

In Gimp, almost everything goes onto the History - change the visibility of a layer and that goes on the history. Sometimes I find it too much: "all I want to do is Undo the gradient fill but I've got to back out through 15 layer visibility selections to get there".

I think that adding track view changes to the history should be doable, and probably not too inconvenient. At the moment there seems to be some inconsistency about whether a view change gets undone or not :? Are you noticing that?

I think there is too much in the History already that is not edits, but also think it's wrong that a View Mode change can be undone by undoing something else (unless there is a specific choice to have that happen or not).

We don't change horizontal zoom when undoing an action so why change vertical zoom or the vertical scale? Why not just keep those states in memory like other states?

Not on Windows.

That was my opinion. I thought the whole reason for having Waveform dB not appear up with the main tools is that it was sticky.

I've opened this up by moving it to "Adding Features". It looks like Koz and I would vote for the ability not to change view states when undoing.

So have you counted votes Gale - or does this need/warrant a Wiki xfr?
