What's the possibility of making the Disk Image so Audacity will not run without installing? Koz

It could possibly be done. Audacity could check if its location or export directory was /Volumes/<itself> and if so, throw an error.

It may be better just to make a "proper" installer with an interface and buttons that does not expose the "Audacity" folder in the DMG to the user.

I don't know how easy that would be to script when doing the Mac Nightly Builds.

I've discussed improving the Audacity installer with Paul Livesey. I suggested he use a background image that shows the user what to do. He'll try to show user an alias folder for /Applications within the DMG.

Then user just has to drag the Audacity folder to the alias folder inside the DMG.

That sounds like a feature request so moved it here.
(also helps to keep the original (locked) "sticky" topic focussed on the issue)

That sounds like a modification to Audacity, not the DMG. I'm not sure how practical it is. I would suggest waiting to see if we get a new installer with a background image displaying how to drag the Audacity folder to an alias of the /Applications folder.

I think it would be a waste of time to even record the request. Developers don't like coding for users who don't read the instructions.

Could Audacity distinguish a DMG from a USB thumb drive?
