Hi, I just registered to tell you, there is a free tool downloadable at the Mixxmeister-website, which determines automagically the BPM of any given mp3 or sound-file.

I've tried it with a handful of WAV and MP3 files (it does not support Flac files).
The beat detection seems to be fairly accurate, though in all of my test cases it gave a figure that was a multiple of the actual BPM. For example a slow piece that was 38 BPM was reported as 151 BPM and another that was about 60 BPM was reported as (about) 240 BPM.

Unfortunately it is not open source, but at least it's free

you need the BPM Analyzer at the downloadspage from mixmeister.com
thats how you now the bpm of your song.
in audacity under effects and tempo , there you see how many seconds the selected song is and there you have to fil in the
new length in seconds. so from xxx.xxx seconds to ccc.ccc seconds.


so the selected song is xxx.xx sec at xxx.xx bpm and you want it at ccc.cc bpm so you need the ccc.ccc seconds , thats what you now.
now the trick
xxx.xx bpm / 60 = x.xxxx bps
xxx.xxx sec * x.xxx bps = xxx.xxxxx beats in that xxx.xx bpm song
now
ccc.cc bpm / 60 = c.cccc bps
xxx.xxxxx / c.cccc bps = ccc.ccc sec

so in audacity under effects and tempo , there you write next to xxx.xx seconds the ccc.ccc seconds and pres ok.
then you select time shift , thats on the right of the record button and on the left of the volumemeter , its a sign with

two arrows. with that you can move your song, then zoom in untill you see the beats and slide your song to the correct

place so the beats matches, happy mixing.lol
