Audacity modifications request

Hello guys!

I´m working for AEQ, an enterprise dedicated to design hardware and software applications for radio and tv stations.

We´re thinking the possibility to incorporate the audactity to our automation software, with some specific modifications.

Those are:

- Save file always in an specific format.
- Up to only 2 tracks.
- Remove the Metadata Window.
- Some changes over the GUI.

For that, we want to see the option to give this tasks for any one of you guys, and know the price for them.

We know that Audacity is an open source, and we are beware about the next considerations, if someone can help us:

* Audacity received proper credit

* The Audacity features were separately installed or loaded so that our open source licensing was clear.

* Additionally, the modified Audacity source code would have to be publicly available.

Please let me know if that´s possible to do it with you and contact me to aeqaudioplus AT mail.com.

Thanks in advance!

Your first three requests should not take more than 10 hours time for a programmer (familiar with software) to code, debug and beta test. Changing the GUI can be extremely complicated and because there is a lot of shared GUI code it is possible that a change which is beneficial in one place can have unintended negative consequences in a seemingly unrelated section of the GUI.

Members of the formal Audacity Development Team rarely check in here on the forum so this post will only draw attention from programmers who are not Developers of Audacity. That being said, I could certainly accomplish the three specified items on the list and am very familiar with making changes to Audacity's GUI. I would be happy to review your GUI changes to see if they are IMO changeable and if I feel competent to make the changes. If I feel that I can make the changes, and can get a handle on the time it would take to do so, I would then be able to give you a price quote. We would then have to go through the nightmare of trying to figure out how to ensure how I got the work done (to your satisfaction), delivered in a timely manner and the exchange of funds!

Could you give me your email by personal message or to aeqaudioplus AT gmail.com?

Hi both,

Someone else from AEQ wrote to me previously about this, hence they are aware of the GPL requirements.

It is definitely best to do any financial deals off the Forum, however Ed, you must be sure you can also integrate and install/load the stripped down Audacity into AEQ's application to satisfy GPL, unless AEQ are going to do that separately themselves.

Is this work a one-off contract for a customer of yours or are you building a software product including Audacity that you hope to sell many copies of?

Hello Gale.

I´m the person who´s talking with you before about the changes and we´re aware from the GPL requirements.
We´ll making the arrangements outside the forum; that´s why I wrote my email.

For your information:

We´re trying to sell our automation software with Audacity ALWAYS AS AN OPTION AND WHITHOUT PRICE FOR THE CUSTOMED MODIFICATIONS.

If someone of the community wants to help us, will made the trade directly with the person and the resulting version will be published in the proper pages for free distribution.

If we need to add some extra documentation or legal notices please make me know. We want to do it always in the legal way and with the idea that both parties (the company and the community) have a new version that can improve the characteristics of the program in benefit of everyone.

Regards,

I am always a bit leery about this kind of solicitation. In the past I have undertaken similar projects for private individuals and nonprofits but it has always been for a standalone version of Audacity and I have always published the relevant code here on the forum as well as making the executable publicly available. I have no desire to transgress the boundaries of what is right in regard to Audacity and GPL!

That is one reason why I have not given out my email address in this thread. I was hoping to keep all of the details and negotiations public to avoid any hint of impropriety.

Can you use a standalone version of Audacity (or do you intend to launch that standalone by a button from your automation app)? Or is the integration more complex than that?

By "incorporated" I thought you meant that Audacity would basically be running like some kind of plug-in within your closed source app and so not standalone at all. For that reason I felt an Audacity developer would not want to do the work.

Hello:

We pretend to launch Audacity when you hit a button, and after edition, save it in our specific audio format.

Edgar, unfortunately I don´t have the "compose mail" activated and cannot reach you. Another way?

You should now be able to send a private message (PM) to Edgar. See the "PM" button below his name on the right hand side of his post.
