Any plans for GSOC in the future?

Audacity was a part of the Google Summer of Code in 2008 and 2009, but hasn't participated since. The wiki page of
Feature Requests has an almost overwhelming number of desired improvements to Audacity.
I was wondering if anyone knew why Audacity is not availing itself of the help that they could get by participating in the Google Summer of Code; I have to believe that there are at least SOME students out there who would be excited at the prospect of taking on these challenges. Is there some underlying reason for not participating in GSOC, or is it just lack of interest?

Definitely not lack of interest, but lack of developer resources to mentor the students and administer the GSoC projects, which takes considerable time.
In a nutshell, most Audacity development and quality assurance outside GSoC comes to a halt while GSoC is ongoing, and there is no guarantee the outcome of all projects will be successful and lead to releasable enhancements.
That said, the fundamental reason we did not take part in GSoC this year was because we had to get 2.0.0 released that Spring. I believe we will take part in a future GSoC, if we have enough developer time.

Sounds like Audacity is working with a minimal number of developers. I hope that you do have the resources to do GSOC 2013, because even if it does require mentors, it also brings attention to the project - maybe attracting new programmers...
I wish I had the time, skill and patience to help, because I really like Audacity. It has a lot of potential, but it has a long way to go to be a truly great Open Source app.
