How to export audio while it's recording

Post by mitchy » Mon Feb 28, 2011 4:58 am

I'd like to be able to use the "Timer Record" feature of Audacity to record audio and have it get exported out to a file (e.g. MP3) while it's recording. Is there any way to do that? If not, I'd appreciate a recommendation of another tool that could do this.

Straight answer: no, audacity can't export to mp3 "on-the-fly". It always records uncompressed audio and you have to export to save to mp3 format.

You don't tell us which operating system you have (windows? mac? linux?) so it's hard to give any recommendation without that piece of information. Which recording equipment are you using? Some might come with bundled software that allows you to do such thing. Otherwise you can always search in the "usual" places (such as sourceforge, or other OS related websites) for free software.
Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).

One way to do it would be to use a PVR video recorder or even a VHS deck (if you still have one)
