How to restore old style veritical zoom?

Permanent link to this post Posted by Tapehead » Fri Mar 23, 2018 12:26 am

I stayed with 2.1.2 because I didn't like some of the later gui 'improvements', but i thought I'd give it another
whirl and discovered a new vertical zoom right click context menu.

I don't care for it either.

Is this hardwired or can I change it back?

Still getting the new vertical scrolling context menu on right click popping up. Sometimes it behaves in classic fashion but mostly not.

Plus there is the added irritant of when I reduce the zoom in increments and don't realise I'm all the way there... and make an extra click the pesky context menu pops up again.

Win7 - with latest Audacity zip download

Right-click now brings up the context menu. To zoom out use shift-click.

I sympathize. I preferred right-click for zoom out since I didn't have to add a modifier key. At least shift-right-click still does a zoom-reset.

To use the old-style Vertical Zoom just use the left-click in the Vertical Ruler

As explained earlier this is now off by default (lots of folk were getting confused by it and stuck) so you need to turn on Advanced Vertical Zooming in Preferences as explained above in a earlier post in this thread.

If you don't like/want the context menu then just don't right-click in the vertical ruler (there is no opetion/preference to turn the right-click context menu off).

But even if you are an advanced left-clicker zoomer - there is one really useful command for you in the right-click context menu and that is Zoom Reset which returns you to normal (default) vertical zoom level.

Thanks Bill, I have always disliked using modifiers and have adapted my most used Audacity shortcuts to avoid them.

WC & Steve, thanks but I had already checked the advanced option before posting my query, but thought I'd missed something because of the way it functions

(there is no opetion/preference to turn the right-click context menu off).

Therefore I'm staying with 2.1.2

I see Ctrl+Left-click and Ctrl+Right-click both zoom in. How 'bout just changing Ctrl+Right-click to zoom out? Then vertical zoom will then work like it used to except for the Ctrl key. I wouldn't mind having an unshifted Left-click in the vertical scale do nothing at all - I've often wandered into the vertical scale while dragging a clip and then clicked the mouse and gotten an unintended vertical zoom.
