Dead Preview button on Generate > Chirp, Tone, Noise, DTMF

Hi to all here.

The quick form of my question is in the subject line. A more long-winded version is as follows:

I finally updated what must have been a fairly old version of Audacity yesterday. Things have certainly moved on!
I can't describe myself as a 'power user' but am exploring more and more features as I progress with various projects.

One feature I have been using quite a bit lately is the Generate tone and Generate chirp accessed from the main toolbar.

My previous version of Audacity allowed me to preview the selected settings but for some reason, when I press this preview button on the latest ( 2.2.1 ) version nothing happens - the button is just kind of dead.

Just to say, I did a quick run through of the other options available on the Generate drop-down and found some working and some not as follows:

Previews not working:

Chirp
Tone
Noise
DTMF

Previews working:

Pluck
Rhythm
Risset

Version 2.2.1.
user: Windows 7, sp1

Hopefully someone can help out,

Thanks for the report.
I've moved this to the "Feedback" section of the forum as this is a cross-platform issue (it also occurs on Linux, and I'm guessing it will occur also on Mac).

To work around the issue, create a track first (Tracks menu > Add New > ...) and make a selection in the new track. Then open the generate effect, and preview will work.

I'll add this to the bug tracker, and hopefully it will be fixed soon.
