Wasapi can not work as multitrack recording, but WDM-KS yes

Post by Dan Olaru » Thu Dec 21, 2017 12:16 pm

I'm sorry, I can't record my band in multitrack session without WDM-KS driver, with my Onix Firebird soundcard (8 channels) in Win 7 or more. Why don't introduce this driver again in last edition of Audacity? Did you hope for that?

We trialed WDM-KS in an old version of Audacity, but found that many sound card WDM-KS drivers were buggy and could cause a complete system crash, so support for WDM-KS has been withdrawn from Audacity. There are no immediate plans to bring it back as we don't have a developer to work on it.

Maibe you can introduce ASIO. Many multitrack soundcards and DAW-s work with this driver.
Have all the licence for this?
Can Audacity 2.x record multitrack with WASAPI and other soundcards (no Mackie Onix Firebird ?

Unfortunately the license for ASIO is incompatible with the license for Audacity. More details here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/ASIO_Audio_Interface

The number of recording channels is entirely dependent on the audio device drivers. Based on posts to this forum, some devices are known to have multi-channel WASAPI drivers, and these work fine with Audacity.
