Export Multiple | Track-Tags (Id3) | don't ask for tags

Post by fohrums » Sat Aug 20, 2016 2:22 am

```
Audacity_2.1.2
win10_Home_x64
```

Once I found out about the `Export Multiple...` function in Audacity,- it saved me so much time and i've become an avid user of this function ;).

# PROBLEM

* The hassle with exporting multiple tracks is the `Tag-DialogWindow`
+ It pops up for every track being exported making it really annoying, because I don't want tags for any of the tracks i'm about to export.
- having this option to NotAsk for tags per-tracks would save me so much time and free me from the hassle :oops:

___

## NOTE

* Option should save once enabled
+ Once `ExportMultiple_Ask_ID3Tags` is disabled should it remain static as the user's preference.

"Edit menu > Preferences > Import / Export > Show Metadata Editor prior to export step:"
Set to "off" (not selected). http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/impo ... ences.html

I agree that this option could be much more convenient/easier to find, and in a future version of Audacity it probably will be.

Maybe we should consider adding a feature (button?) to the metadata dialogs that pop up like this by default when exporting to enable the use to turn them off from there.

Rather than just trying on Preferences - though I would still keep the Preference entry and the action above would set that "Show Metadata tags editor ..." to be un-checked "off".

You still then have the problem of how does the user who turned them off a while ago and now wants them back finding wher to turn them on again - oh only can be done in Preferences.

So maybe instead the on/off switch for metadata should actually be on the top level Export dialogs. Maybe a button there that lets you invoke the metadata for the export if you require it. This would be on-the-fly each time you used the export and thus we would no longer need the Preference - on thinking about it that seems to me a much better solution.

It is important that we solve the dual problems of how to turn off writing of metadata, and how to make it easy for those who want common metadata for each track to enter it only once (http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=551).

Steve and I thrashed this out and I think we have a plan http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 13#p300313.
