I see that Audacity has a lot to offer, much more than I'd ever need.
I got it packaged with the Plexgear turntable I bought.

But since all I want to do is to rip vinyl and make discrete MP3 files from all the tracks I am forced to learn and do a lot of things that I don't think I need.

ideally, I would prefer to be able to chose an operaating modus comparable to what RipVinyl does. I put a record on the turntable, stat operation and when the record stops, the tracks are ready to be named and saved. All I have to do is to determine a noise level, and RipVinyl faithfully separate the tracks accordingly without any problems. Only drawback is I cant buy the program, and the demo version is not usable as it insert beeps into the music. It is not possible to buy the program from where I live and it seems several other countries share the same predicament, seemingly due to a VAT problem.

i only wish they'd let people in countries like mine have it for free; they wouldn't be losing any money anyway

Mp3MyMp3 seems to be something close to RipVinyl:

http://www.mp3mymp3.com/

I've never used it, but it's free, so it's easy to try. Be careful where you download it from. Some sources seem to come bundled with "Relevant knowledge", which is adware. Here's the site of the makers:

https://www.relevantknowledge.com/Home.aspx

This is the current VirusTotal status:

https://www.virustotal.com/nl/file/bb90 ... /analysis/

One of these scanners calls it a trojan, which it isn't. Another one calls it a worm, which it isn't either. Only 5 out of 57 seem to consider it malicious. And Eset is the only one that labels it correctly as "potentially unwanted".

In case you need to remove it, Ad-aware will kill it.

Assuming it's a USB turntable another alternative is Ion's EZ VINYL/TAPE CONVERTER. It does automatic tracks splitting - how well, I don't know.

Audacity isn't hard if you read Tutorial - Copying tapes, LPs or MiniDiscs to CD so you know where the different parts of the operation can be found.

First thing that happens I am asked to connect my audio device. That device is connected and has been used with audacity but since EZ VINYL stops right there waiting for something to happen that's already happened I don't know what to do. (I think I've already said my OS is XP) I have Win7 too but don't expect that to behave differently. May give it a try though.

My reply to Gale Andrews wrt EZ VINYL/TAPE CONVERTER seems not to be out of moderation, but testing on Windows 7 had the same result, asking for audio device to be connected. But EZ seems not to recognize the turntable I have been using with Audacity, a Plexgear USB unit.

But I refuse to use Audacity, and that's not beacuse there's anything wrong with Audacity. It just isn't what I want.

I had been told a couple of times that EZ works with other than Ion and Numark turntables but I don't know "which" other turntables.

Thank you for your feedback Roffen. I hope you are able to find a program that is more to your liking.
