Can I Mark audio while recording?

I am listening to an NPR station on-line and recording it using Audacity. While listening to the station, I hear a segment to which I want to return. Is there a way to click something to leave a marker on the recording to which I can easily return after the recording is done?

Ctrl+M
then press "Enter".
Optionally you can type text into the label before pressing "Enter".

I am using the label to mark the entire track but these are one hour long. Having to play the entire program again just to find the segment is tedious. It would be nice to be able to mark the segment.
Would this not be useful for other applications?

You can put a label anywhere in the performance you want in real time. This isn't the metadata panel at the end of the show. This is a separate track that marks points during the show.

Please see my previous reply. The steps I gave do what you have asked for.

Ok, I finally realized that a label track exists. I also see that I can create a label with <ctl> B as I want while recording. It looks as if it is going to work.
Is it possible to create the label track while recording an audio track?
If not, is it possible to create a new label track automatically every time I start a new audio track?

Sure you can, but does that give you labels where you want them?
For the benefit of future forum users that may be looking for the correct way to do this:
To create a label at the cursor position during recording or playback, press:
Ctrl + M (Windows or Linux)
Command + . (Mac OS X)
There is a comprehensive list of keyboard shortcuts in the manual:

This is exactly what I needed. <CTRL> M creates the label track if it does not exist already and opens the text box at the point of recording to place a comment. A caution is that one should zoom out to allow the text box to remain on the screen in order to write in it. (:
Mischief managed....
Thanks....

If you trust your typing, I believe you don't have to do that. You can type blind and the Enter key will set the label wherever it is.

Granted but you will not be able to see what you are typing easily.
