Have been aware of Audacity for years, but the brick wall moment came, that of recording streaming audio on a Dell Inspiron 660 with windows 8 and whatever wretched thing they use as a sound card.

Adobe Audition, Wavosaur, Goldwave, Reaper even can't record anything.

Audacity is the only program that works on this system, so many many thanks for however you did it.

Thanks. If you mean you chose Windows WASAPI host, we just use a "loopback" recording feature built into Windows Vista and later: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... 85%29.aspx .

Gale,

Every audio mode fails with all other softwares I've tried in Win 8.1. ASIO, direct sound,WASAPI, MME, etc. Various error messages come up about faulty configurations, or no devices detected, contact the developers for help.

Only Audacity delivers a clean streaming wav recording.

Very thankful for this program because I'd be dead in the water on this computer without it.

Best,

John
