recording left and right tracks

Post by LiamFinn » Thu Jan 30, 2014 4:04 pm

hi :)

1. i'm making my own homemade "dual induction" mp3's ... what i want is to be able to record phrasing on the left track only, then play it back and listen to it while i record phrasing on the right track, is there an easy way to do this?

2. also, on my wishlist is to be able to record my voice and slowly rotate it from extreme right to extreme left and vice versa, is this possible?

thanks person who might answer me :)

Record your track as a mono track (set number of channels to "1 (mono)" in the device toolbar)
Then click on the name of the track in the panel on the left end of the track. A drop-down menu will appear.
Select "Left Channel".

Repeat for your second track but select "Right Channel" from the drop-down menu.

Record the teach as a mono track.
Duplicate the track (Select the track then press Ctrl+D)
From the track drop-down menus, set one track to "Left Channel" and the other to "Right Channel".
Apply a "fade out" to one track and a "fade in" to the other (Effect menu).
When you play the tracks, you will hear the sound pan gradually from one side to the other as one "channel" fades out and the other fades in.

For more complex panning you can use the envelope tool rather than the fade effect (http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/envelope_tool.html)
