I've been using Audacity 2.0.0 on Windows 2000 for a year or so,and have been churning out lots of original music.
Audacity is the only music software I have ever used which pretty much does what I want.
It's quick. It never crashes or freezes. Never confusing. Just the right level of complexity for me. It's brilliant.
Recently I was looking for ways to make poly-rhythm drum beats, which led me to Reaper, which has a beautiful interface, but has done some very weird things on my computer. Enough to make me realize how great Audacity is, and download version 2.0.5.
Hopefully this will help me get even closer to my 'ideal' DAW.
Cheers.
Thanks for Audacity

Re: Thanks for Audacity
Do you still have the installer files for 2.0.0? Upgrading when everything is working to your satisfaction may not be the best idea. There were some very serious changes between those two versions.

Yes, I have the 2.0.0 installer.
If it ain't broke - don't fix it,I know.
Maybe I can install the latest version in a different folder.

Re: Thanks for Audacity
Audacity 2.0.5 can be safely installed over the top of Audacity 2.0.0.
If in the unlikely event you need to revert to 2.0.0 then you can simply reinstall 2.0.0 over the top of 2.0.5.
It shouldn't be necessary, but I like to make a back-up copy of any plug-ins that I have installed before updating Audacity. The main advantage of doing this is that if a disaster strikes during the installation, I can just delete the entire audacity installation folder and run the installer again (belt and braces)

Yes, I installed 2.0.5, and so far everything is good. It seems that some plugins have been added and improved.
Re: Thanks for Audacity
I've always wanted to be able to record in
beautiful interior spaces without lugging
my entire home studio around. This morning
(with a preamp, a stereo mic, and an optical
cable to my laptop), Audacity 2.0.5 left me
speechless. I've been recording professionally
since 1990, and this program blew my mind.
I usually work in Pro Tools with all the glitter
and gold, but this, this was sooo simple and
elegant. Ha! I can't wait to scout out new
locations to do vocals and overdubs.
Bless you all, you Audacious ones! sf
