Selection Click Behavior Changed (for the worse)

I've recently upgraded to v2.0.3. Back when I used 1.3.x beta, clicking on the waveform would place the cursor at the previous boundary and, that was exactly what I needed it to do (I happen to work with CDDA frames).

Now, in 2.0.3, the cursor snaps to the nearest boundary. But, I never want it to go to the next one. I always want the previous one. So now, instead of clicking once at the ideal point to find the last frame I can use, I always have to click and click and sometimes click again and again to find the end of that last usable frame.

I presume this was changed by design. Is there a way to get the old behavior back? I haven't been able to find it in the Preferences. It really needs to be there.

I'd not actually noticed until I read your post, but I presume that it is by design, and I'd imagine that it is what most people would want.
There is probably an easy way to do what you want without having to "click again and again". What exactly are you doing?

Steve, thanks for replying.

I now realize when my initial click causes the cursor to land to the right (instead of the left), I don't have to "search" for the left boundary by trial and error clicking; instead, I can press the left arrow to move it one frame to the left, which is where the cursor would have landed in 1.3.x.

So, although it's not the perfect solution, I can live with it. :)

Thanks again.

I had not noticed either, but the behaviour changed in 1.3.14, and isn't intended and wasn't discussed, so in that sense it's a bug. It also means the Manual is incorrect ( http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Selection_Toolbar) . I haven't found any obvious reason it happened and what commit caused it.

On the whole I think the previous behaviour was preferable, especially for a format like frames.

Thanks, Gale, for finding and posting those facts.
