Audacity crashes when opening already recorded Aiff

I recently recorded a few LPs using Audacity 2.x for the first time. I have been using the program to rip cassettes and LPs for at lease 4 years now. Recently, i started exporting my rips as .Aiff files to save space over saving them as projects. However, latest version of Audacity, crashes almost every time i open an Aiff file to edit. Anyone else having the same problem? i'm considering going back to the Beta version as i have a dozen more LPs to rip.

Thanks.

WAV files are recognized by both Mac and Windows and it's the Audacity default. I haven't used AIFF in years on either of my Macs. The only shortcoming is AIFF handles metadata better than wave. I think that's the only difference past some unimportant data structure issues. The musical quality is the same.

Can you create a five second AIFF that guaranteed crashes your Audacity and post it here on the forum?

I use AIFs exclusively (for the metadata). I've never had a problem.

I started using Aiffs exclusively since the beta version and never had any problems. I did a clean install of Audacity 2, but it still crashes. Thanks.

Here's a 45 sec sound file. Thanks.

When I followed that link, I was invited to download an EXE file. Please don't take offence but I don't know you, I don't know that site and I didn't recognise the software product name. Since I know of no valid reason why an audio file has to wrapped within an EXE file, I am leaving well alone.

That file imports fine for me. Audacity 2.0.0 OS X 10.7.2.

In the File Import dialog, what have you chosen in the "Format" drop-down menu below the file list.

Try resetting your preferences. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Preferences#reset
