Export and Export Multiple - "current location" option
Both Export and Export Multiple remember the last location that one exported to. (I'm using the Windows version.)
This is useful, but sometimes it's also useful to export to the same folder as the current project, or a subfolder of it. Often it can be time consuming to navigate from the last exporting location to the current project file's folder. I think it would be handy to have a button to change the selected location to the current project's folder.
An example of another program that can do this is Irfanview's Batch section.

I take it this has been discussed before. Sorry, I couldn't find it. Can you provide a link to it, please?Gale Andrews wrote:I added your vote.

That actual solution hasn't been discussed before (as far as I know), but there are lots of opinions and proposed solutions about where export and save project should default to.pshute wrote:I take it this has been discussed before. The vote I added is here http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Featu ... ing_Tracks .
The most "popular" solution is to have a Preference "Export to directory from which original .aup or audio file loaded: (like Save Project does). Should apply to all export options (including labels, which should use name of the file, not "labels.txt") and fall back to "last used" directory otherwise. (15 votes) "

Thanks, it's actually further down at http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Featu ... references.Gale Andrews wrote:That actual solution hasn't been discussed before (as far as I know), but there are lots of opinions and proposed solutions about where export and save project should default to.

What does "fall back to ..." mean? That implies that the first choice of location could be somehow not available, but I don't see how that could happen. Or does it mean that "last used directory" is the other possible choice in a preference setting?
If the latter then I don't think this belongs in a preference. Both locations ("current" or "last") are both so useful that both should always be easily available, which is why I suggested a button on the form instead.
Re: Export and Export Multiple - "current location" option
Quite easily. For example if you imported a file from a CD-R or any other non-writable location.pshute wrote:That implies that the first choice of location could be somehow not available, but I don't see how that could happen.

Re: Export and Export Multiple - "current location" option
That makes sense. Well, I'm in favour of the preference option - better than no choice at all - but like I said, I think it's better to be able to choose one or the other at file saving time.steve wrote:Quite easily. For example if you imported a file from a CD-R or any other non-writable location.
I agree that label export files should have the same name as their project too.

Re: Export and Export Multiple - "current location" option
The link I gave was to what you asked for "Button to export to current project location".pshute wrote:That makes sense. A preference "Export to directory from which original .aup or audio file loaded" would I assume be a checkbox. A very simple case where it would "fall back" to the last directory exported to even if checked would be if you launched Audacity then made a recording and exported it. If unchecked, the export directory would always be the last used, as now.
I am not sure that Preference and your button are very compatible. Your button may be useful if you have that Preference unchecked, but often pointless if you have the Preference checked. The button would I assume either be greyed if there was no saved project open, or if active without a saved project would point to the directory that would be presented if you pressed File > Save Project.
OK then I can add your vote for "Label Export: Include project name in exported file name: for example: projectname_labels.txt (1 votes)".pshute wrote:I agree that label export files should have the same name as their project too.
Do you still want to vote for a Preference "Export to directory from which original .aup or audio file loaded"? It's up to you. The votes are only an indication for the developers. A number of different methods of achieving some end may be on Feature Requests but be partly conflicting.
