Saying Hi

Post by Dave Davison » Tue Apr 03, 2012 11:18 am

To the moderators who devote time and expertise in helping folk like me (a silver surfer) who seem to struggle continually with this I.T. stuff, sincere thanks. A couple of years ago I decided I wanted to transfer my ancient LP's & loads of cassette tapes to CD so purchased an EZ Vinyl Converter turntable unaware that Audacity does just that for free. I converted the LP's but because of desktop space restraints decided to put the turntable in the loft. THEN ! at long last I discovered that I can use Audacity to embark on the mammoth task of converting the massive collection of cassettes that I have accumulated over the years. Since this process must be in real time it is going to take many hours of listening as my ancient tape deck does not have a counter to indicate when the end of the tape is in view. Anyway thanks guys, I have just read many of the questions and found the answers very helpful. :ugeek: THANKS. Dave D

You should find this et of tutorials useful: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tu ... to_cd.html

and this workflow may be usefull too: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/sa ... ation.html

The alpha (as yet unreleased Manual has this other workflow: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Samp ... gitization

And the other tool that I find extremely useful after a steer from Koz is Brian Davies' ClickRepair - it costs a little but saved me loads of time and produced excellent results - see this sticky Forum thread: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=1994

Enjoy litening to all those LPs and tapes again as you transfer them.
