Discord :Craig: Audacity files won't open

Post by Wacky » Mon Dec 21, 2020 5:07 am

I've been recording D&D sessions my and a couple other players have while on Discord using the :Craig: bot. It has the option to save as multiple persons with an Audacity file, which I did.

The first few sessions saved perfectly fine, but my latest few won't open. Weirdest thing about it, is the Audacity program keeps giving me the error message that the file is and Audacity file and must be opened with the Open>File command. It does not.

Is anyone else having this sort of problem or know of a solution? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don't understand what you are trying to say.
Please describe:
1. What exactly you are doing.
2. What exactly is happening (including the full and exact text of any error messages)
3. What you expect to happen.

I suspect that the problem is that the files are malformed in some way.

What version of Audacity are you running?

Have you tried double-clicking on the file? Have you tried File>Import ?

Who said,
the file ... must be opened with the Open>File command ?
Screenshot?

No luck didn't seem to work. Discord is behaving like mad.

:? So unfortunately, we seem to be talking "at" each other rather than "to" each other. I did a quick look up of discord and audacity and OBS and the Craig bot. ;)

So I did a search of the Audacity archives and found this error can apparently be caused by renaming the Audacity .aup file. See, for example: Can't open AUP file :(

:D These issues can be avoided by upgrading to Audacity 3.0.2 here: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/
