2.2.2 often unresponsive
I use Audacity to edit audio books. In earlier versions, I would stop play, make a selection and delete and it would be instantaneous. With this current version, I have to wait often 5-10 seconds to be allowed to do anything with what I've selected, and other times the program won't ever switch over and I have to try to press play and stop again, or create another section. This is ridiculous. Is there any way this can be fixed, or do I have to search back for a former version of Audacity that is reliable in this area?

Re: 2.2.2 often unresponsive
Since none of these symptoms seem to make sense, you may have inadvertently created two events at once.
When you upgraded to 2.2.2, what did you come from? If you came from a much earlier Audacity, you and the computer may be accustomed to a much smaller program with fewer tools and services.
Some of your symptoms can be from a machine running out of resources. How big is the drive and how much drivespace do you have left? When you upgraded, there was a clickly for Audacity to reset its settings and preferences. If you came from a really early version, you may be trying to use really old settings on a new Audacity. Make sure you have backups of your effects or know where to get new ones. This process returns Audacity to First Birthday.
When was the last time you "clean" shut down Windows? Straight Shutdown or Restart doesn't really clean out Windows. They did it that way because nobody liked the long time it normally takes for Windows to start. Shift-Shutdown wait a bit and then start.
How any other things do you have running at the same time as Audacity? If you don't exactly remember, it may be time for that clean Shutdown. Did you graduate to Google Drive or other cloud services at about the same time as the update?
Way down on the bottom of the troubleshooting list that doesn't seem to make sense; can you make it worse? Is there some change you can make which really drives Audacity nuts?

Re: 2.2.2 often unresponsive
I have 4gb of ram and a 500gb hard drive. My last version of Audacity was 2.03 which ran like a charm, and now is reinstalled, and runs like a chame. It does not take up to 30 seconds or refuse to respond beteen pressing stop and being allowed to edit my audio files. I have no effects running and I have very little running outside of Audacity. Its bad enough already, and unresponsive enough all ready. Why would I want to make things worse? As far as I am concerned its completely unusable. I am not using any effects and have no special settings other than default.
What is Audacity 2.2.2 doing every time I press stop that it picks a random number between 0 and infinity to do?

I also want to know why you brought up 'cloud' computing. I have no cloud computing involved in my work. Is audacity 2.2.2 going to some 'cloud' server and passing information back and forth every time i press stop?

There is no 2.03 from Audacity. There was a 2.0.3. You may have a custom "foreign" version. They can have scrambled version numbers. My last version of Audacity was 2.03
To do what? Remember, we can't see your machine. We only know what you tell us. If the machine is doing something odd, you have to describe it.What is Audacity 2.2.2 doing every time I press stop that it picks a random number between 0 and infinity to do?
You wouldn't. We would. When we're troubleshooting a mystery problem, any change good or bad can tell us something about the error. Many audio producers get surgically stuck to only their one narrow problem and ignore other symptoms that might help. Why would I want to make things worse?
We agree. Stop using it. You may have troubles later if we design special filters and effects that only work with newer Audacity versions—some of the audiobook tools work like that—but that's later. As far as I am concerned its completely unusable.

No. Some of the cloud storage services take time to do their data management and if you have a computer already on the edge of not working right, Cloud Services extra effort could push it over the edge.passing information back and forth every time i press stop?
Audio (and video) production doesn't wait. It's not like spreadsheets or printed documents.

For other users, that's what happens with Audacity 2.2.2.judgemel wrote:I use Audacity to edit audio books. In earlier versions, I would stop play, make a selection and delete and it would be instantaneous.
Perhaps your antivirus app is checking the temp data files. Try disconnecting from the Internet, then temporarily disable your anti-virus. Does that make any difference?
