If I clear the bindings for A (previous tool) and D (next tool), the bindings return when I OK out of the dialog.
If I assign these commands to different key combos, they stay bound there and A and D have no effect.
If I clear the bindings again, they revert to A and D.

Works OK for me in both usecases with 2.2.2 on W10DickN wrote:If I clear the bindings for A (previous tool) and D (next tool), the bindings return when I OK out of the dialog.

1) The removed A & D stay removed if I
a) exit the Prefes dialog and re-enter
b) If I exit and restart Audacity and go to Prefs
2) Similarly re-assigned A and D remain re-assigned - and they work

Re: Can't unbind shortcuts for previous/next tool in 2.2.2
I'm actually using Win 7 - my Vista machine is down. I note WC is using Win 10.
I don't have 2.2.2 installed, per se - I'm running it from a folder on the desktop containing a Portable Settings folder. I often have multiple versions of Audacity on the computer this way so when I have a problem I can compare them. This hasn't impaired modifying other key bindings, such as History (Alt-H for me). For the record, I never have multiple versions running concurrently.
I haven't found the zip version of 2.2.1, only the exe version. I haven't downloaded it since I don't want to install it.
In 2.2.0, assigning and clearing shortcuts to these commands works properly. I don't recall whether this one came with A & D already assigned. This version also resides in a desktop folder.
In 2.1.0 also, which I believe didn't come with Next Tool and Previous Tool already assigned, I can set and clear shortcuts for these commands and all's well. This is my "installed" version, which I use only for recording. I'm using a laptop with a small screen, and I use it that way for recording. Some of the toolbars I'd use for editing are hidden. For editing (at home), I plug in a big monitor with ample space for the toolbars. I'd actually like to use one version for both recording and editing but I don't know how to save 2 different screen configurations for the installed version.
Would it be useful for me to install 2.2.1 and report whether I have the problem in that version? Or (for me) preferably, where can I find the zip version?
