wierd error on linux mint

Help for Audacity on GNU/Linux.

Please state:
  • which version of Linux you are using,
  • the exact three-section version number of Audacity from Help menu > About Audacity,
  • whether you installed your distribution's release, PPA version, or compiled Audacity from source code.

Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x are obsolete and no longer supported. If you still have those versions, please upgrade (see https://www.audacityteam.org/download/).
The old forums for those versions are now closed, but you can still read the archives of the 1.2.x and 1.3.x forums.

wierd error on linux mint

I get the following error whenever I try to run audacity on Linux mint 17.3 'Rosa' MATE machine.
(Audacity:22929): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_get_direction: assertion 'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed
I am a total newbie and I would like any help I can get. If you need anymore information just ask. Cheers!

Does anything bad happen in Audacity? What version of Audacity are you using (all three numbers) and where did you obtain it from? Please see the pink panel at the top of the page.
