Before audacity starts actually recording, I like to have a chance to adjust the gain, is there any way to do this?

Also, sometime I want to stop (not pause) a recording, and pick up where I left off, without creating another track. Can I do that?

Click on the recording meter and it will start monitoring.

Shift + R to resume recording.
