Plugins don't work

Help for Audacity on GNU/Linux.

Please state:
  • which version of Linux you are using,
  • the exact three-section version number of Audacity from Help menu > About Audacity,
  • whether you installed your distribution's release, PPA version, or compiled Audacity from source code.

Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x are obsolete and no longer supported. If you still have those versions, please upgrade (see https://www.audacityteam.org/download/).
The old forums for those versions are now closed, but you can still read the archives of the 1.2.x and 1.3.x forums.

Plugins don't work

Helo

I'm using Audacity 2.0.7-alpha-Nov 11 2014 with Ubuntu 14.04.
I'm trying to transform voices :D with plugins, but for the most them, I just have this message :
Attempting to initialize the following effect failed:
Chebyshev distortion...

It's just with the Audacity 2.0.7-alpha-Nov 11 2014 (cvs)

But the problem is the same with the most of plugins...

Audacity does not ship with a "Chebyshev distortion" effect. Is it this http://plugin.org.uk/ladspa-swh/docs/la ... tml#id1430 from the swh plugins set? If so, is it the LADSPA or LV2 version of that set?

Are you importing files or recording when you see those messages in the log (that is, are you using up disk space)?

By the way you are (I assume) using daily builds of Audacity. These builds are unstable (and more so because we are experimenting with new features right now). You should have stayed with a build as close as possible to 29 September (the date of 2.0.6 Release, which is stable).

What version of Linux are you using, exactly?

The effect menu is broken in the current alpha version. Effects that are disabled in preferences (Edit > Preferences > Effects) are listed in the Effect menu but are disabled (won't work). This is due to some, as yet incomplete, changes to effect handling. Unfortunately this means that, imo, the current alpha version is not suitable for production work

"Chebyshev distortion" is a LADSPA effect. It is not shipped with Audacity and I don't know if it works or not. Many old LADSPA effects don't work correctly or fully with Audacity.

The current release version of Audacity(2.0.6) is available as a tarball via the main Audacity website: (near the top of this page http://audacityteam.org/download/source)
The "Example" steps given here should work for installing it: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Compi ... ux_Mint.29
(though of course you will need to unpack the tarball first).

Yes, and I now see that on Linux you get the message yobeco mentions if you disable the effects and try to access them from the menus. But the effects "should" work if you go to Effects Preferences, enable LADSPA (or LV2) then restart Audacity.

Also the effects must still exist. Items that were added to the Effect Menu are not removed from the menus when they no longer exist, even if you restart Audacity. Another bug.

Yes but as I said, it is also available as an LV2. I assume yobeco has the LADSPA version because the LV2 version would require compiling the plugins.

The LV2 Chebyshev distortion works for me on Ubuntu 13.10. I expect the LADSPA version works. It does on Windows.

Well, yobeco already said he could not manage those steps. @yobeco, are you using Ubuntu, if so what version exactly?

It's another bug. You will get bugs if you use unstable builds.

Open the Effects Preferences and set "Maximum effects per group" to 0 (zero).

Yes, I shoult use the stable version, but I'm waiting for the issue of an other bug :
Audacity don't acceptes to open tow projects.
To do that, I have to go to the "open" menu because, if I clic on the other project I need, in nautilus, it's not opening...

I have this message :
Le système a détecté qu'une autre session d'Audacity était ouverte.
L'ouverture simultanée de deux sessions d'Audacity
peut causer des pertes de données ou le crash du système.

A partir de la session courante d'Audacity, utilisez Nouveau ou Ouvrir
pour démarrer plusieurs projets simultannément.
I'm working with childrens studens on a project that needs to open lots of projects...
(a story with 5 characters (or more), sounds and musiques...)
