A general Audacity usage question.
Over the last 15 years I have used a variety of programs to rip my cd collection and new purchases. I play the recordings to cover the background noise at work. How do I make all the various songs play at the same level (not especially interrested in quality? One song is too low to hear and the next blasts me out. (I use low volume on the player.)
I went thru the manual and am confused about whether to use "auto duck", "compressor", "hard limiter", "leveler", "normalize" or "SC4", or a combination of methods! I would want to do it to all the .mp3, .wav and .ogg files on the hard drive.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

You should try Chris's Compressor.

Chris can simulate the compressors at the radio station. Ever notice you don't have to change the volume control in the car very much when you listen to the radio? That's the station's compressors evening things out for you.
I change the first value, Compress Ratio from 0.5 to 0.77 and it's almost perfect for me. After that, it's a one-click solution.
Chris designed the compressor so he could listen to opera in the car.
