When I hold my mouse over a button, a black box pops up without any visible text.
I'm running the latest version of Audacity in the Ubuntu repository on Ubuntu 12.10 in the Gnome Classic shell.

Thanks but it's a known issue on systems with dark default theme. Please see the Release Notes .
