Help with Focusrite, Xubuntu, Audacity

Hi all,

My setup is:

Sure SM57 (also tested Samson C01) → Focusrite 4i4 → laptop (Xubuntu)

Whenever it sends input into my system, the volume cuts off for the mic. I attached a screenshot here. I’m yelling as loud as I can for this image: the laptop mic (Built-In Audio Analog Stereo) dB’s goes all the way up, but not so for the Scarlett 4i4, which has a hard cutoff early on. See below.

In Audacity, if I try to record, the waveform looks like this:

I’m not sure if this is clipping or what, but you can see a hard cap on the input.

Does anyone know what this problem is, and how to fix it?

Any help is very much appreciated,

James

Hi all,

I figured out that I didn’t have the mic setting high enough in PulseAudio for the Focusrite unit. Once I put the slider up, everything was fine!

Glad to hear that you’ve got it working. Thanks for the update.
