Menu-option Help always says »Audacity-Handbook not installedd«

Hi folks,

I just installed Audacity from the web repository by cmd-line to my Linux Mint Tricia - System. According to the Web-Page concerning the manual’s installation, the downloaded zip-file should simply get unzipped to usr/share/audacity/help/manual. Having done that, nonetheless calling menu-option »Help« always states the manual not being installed locally.

Why is that so, or, respectively, what is the correct path, if the path aforementioned is incorrect?

Many thx

Baerlie

The correct location for the manual depends on where Audacity is installed.

The usual installation locations for Audacity on Linux are either:

  • /usr/share/audacity
This is where Audacity is usually installed by package managers (such as Apt) when installing from a distro’s repository.
In this case, the manual needs to be installed so that the “help” folder is also in /usr/share/audacity like this:
    apt.png
  • /usr/local/share/audacity
This is where Audacity is usually installed when manually built from source.
In this case, the manual needs to be installed so that the “help” folder is also in /usr/local/share/audacity like this:
    local.png
