As a relative newbie I am uncomfortable compiling the new version from source. Does anyone know where I can get a *.deb install file?
There will probably be a PPA build soon in "Panda Jim"s repository. However, for a “relative newbie” I would highly recommend that you stick with the official, supported version from your Linux distribution.
The downside of using unofficial builds is that if you have problems then you’re basically on your own to sort it out.

I am running Mint 19.3. The Software Manager says version 2.4.2.
If it’s working well for you, stick with that version (it works well for me on Xubuntu)
2.4.2 is fine but I would like to get the new aup format as well as the bug fixes when I can.
