Crackling/static/noise introduced after saving or other operation

Post by RexxMagnus » Sat Mar 07, 2020 8:02 pm

My partner has begun experiencing an issue with both Audacity 2.2.2 and 2.3.2 - after performing some operations such as copying and pasting silence into a track, playing back the track results in a crackle or static sound (very loud). The tracks have previously been clean.
He first discovered it after saving a file and reopening it.

He frequently uses generate silence to space out events in a track, and I read somewhere there might be an issue with that, but in the latest case it has been after pasting silence in.
Undoing and repeating the operation sometimes doesn't reproduce the issue.

I have recently switched his traditional HDD for a SATA SSD. Could this be related to the issue?
I have checked the log under the help menu, but nothing indicated errors (should it?)

For further information, this is on an up to date Debian install, running Buster (amd64). We were using the latest audacity supplied through the Debian repo, but upgraded to 2.3.2 via deb-multimedia's repository.
It seems the corruption/glitching isn't related to any specific operation after all.
