- which version of Linux you are using,
- the exact three-section version number of Audacity from Help menu > About Audacity,
- whether you installed your distribution's release, PPA version, or compiled Audacity from source code.

You will probably be struggling, due to the age of Mint 17.3.
It should be possible to build Audacity 2.3.3 on Mint 18 or later.
Mint 19 and later have Audacity 2.2.1 (from the main Ubuntu repository).
It should be possible to build Audacity 2.3.3 on Mint 18 or later.
Mint 19 and later have Audacity 2.2.1 (from the main Ubuntu repository).
