Unable to install Noise Gate Plugin [SOLVED]

Mac OS X 10.10.5
Audacity 2.2.2

Have followed steps from other threads but can’t seem to get the Noise Gate plug enabled.

Downloaded Noisegate.ny.txt → changed to Noisegate.ny (still opens as a regular text file however, not sure if that’s proper or not)

Copied file into ~/Library/Application Support/audacity/Plug-Ins

Relaunched Audacity, went to add/remove plugins under Effects. Noise Gate is not present.

Rebooted computer, Noise Gate still not present.

Copied Noisegate.ny into the Audacity plugin folder within the public library for the hell of it. Relaunched Audacity, plugin still not present.

Copied original file, Noisegate.ny.txt into both Library’s, relaunced Audacity, plugin is STILL not present.

Rebooted again, still nothing.

Been at this for over an hour, don’t know what step(s) I’m missing and am beyond frustrated. Hoping it’s just something simple I’ve overlooked.

Have you set your computer to show the file name extension? (See: https://support.apple.com/kb/PH25381?locale=en_US)

Well, that was definitely simple. I thought I had changed the extension but I guess changing it in the file name doesn’t actually change it. I needed to go into Command-I to change it.

Did this, relaunched Audacity and voila! Noise Gate is now present.

Thank you!!!
