Distortion 20-40 Minutes into Recording

Computer: MacOSX 10.11.6 (El Capitan), Audacity 2.1.0, dmg install
Mic: CAD Audio U37SE-RW, USB Cardioid Condenser Studio Recording Microphone

Hi Everyone,

I’m trying to record a podcast with some friends, but I keep on having issues with my audio. So far we’ve been chatting on Skype and recording our voices separately (I’ve been using Audacity). We get about 20-40 minutes into the conversation and my recorded audio gets more and more distorted. I’ve searched the BAVC Artifact Atlas (https://bavc.org/preserve-media/preservation-tools/av-artifact-atlas) to no avail. I’m currently trying to rule out Audacity, my computer, or my mic as the issue. FYI I’ve already altered the settings in Audio Midi Setup to match my recording settings.

Here’s a sample of what the distortion sounds like (there’s some cursing, I apologize lol):

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

Does the problem correct itself if you stop the recording and restart, or do you need to reboot the computer?
Have you, as a test, tried recording in another application, such as GarageBand?
