Sorry, well does disabling Gatekeeper help while you want to use Audacity?

Code: Select all

sudo spctl --master-disable

Are the Nyquist plugins (NY files) inside the /Applications/Audacity/plug-ins/ folder? Nyquist plugins are not seen if they are in a folder inside /Applications/Audacity/plug-ins/.

You can also try this build http://gaclrecords.org.uk/test-builds/a ... nov-16.zip. Just let the Mac extract the files from the ZIP. Make sure you have quit (not just closed) 2.1.2, delete the folder ~/Library/Application Support/audacity/ , then try executing Audacity.app from the folder extracted from the ZIP.

When you want to re-enable Gatekeeper:

Code: Select all

sudo spctl --master-enable

I'm still having exact same and similar issues, will be trying the above post to see if that is the prlem. I deleted the pluginregistry.cfg, got the same results, the steve daulton Nyquist plugins showed up as "new" in add/remove effects but are not getting enabled, nor showing in effect menu. One thing I did notice is that something is renaming the Nyquist files from example: clipfix.ny to clipfix.ny.txt

Why the added .txt on those files?

IIRC, that is a part of GateKeeper that renames potentially harmful scripts. It shouldn't recognize Nyquist scripts, though.

Lemme check...

Checking to see if any updates on this issue. Have done all of the above, yet still cannot get the Steve Daulton Nyquist plug-ins to show up. Running Add/Remove effects does not list them at all and there are no Daulton plugins showing up in effects menus. All other effects are discovered and working but only the Daulton ones not being discovered/working. The terminal cmds for Gatekeeper were executed to no apparent effect, deleting the plugin.cfg and rebooting didn't help, manually deleting all the .ny files and any .ny.txt files found and copying new ones back didn't do it, deleting the Application Support\Audacity Folders didn't, trying the above listed 2.1.3 beta and later beta versions hasn't worked. Deleted all previous versions of Audacity, and reinstalling hasn't worked either. Can't seem to figure out why these specific plugins only not working.

If you have Generate > Pluck... but not Steve's effects then it is a problem specific to your machine. Perhaps you should re-download the Steve plugins you require, if they are not already included in Audacity.

Exactly what version of macOS are you running now?

There is no 2.1.3 beta made by us. There is 2.1.3-alpha.

You will need to undo that renaming if you want the plugin to appear in Audacity.

sorry meant to say 2.1.3 alpha. Builds being obtained from http://www.audacity.homerow.net/index.p ... ort_mode=d

I will need to check when I get home regarding the Pluck effect, if is there or not. For certain am missing all of these listed in the screenshot attachment under Steve Daulton. shot is from windows computer showing effects grouped by publisher with max display of 50. The files can be found in the correct directories per above posts on the Mac, but running add/remove effects does not discover them. So seems to be specific to just this group of plugins. I have tried manually downloading the Steve Daulton plugins, and deleting and replacing them, but to no affect.

Most of the Steve plugins you show are actually shipped with Audacity.

As above, ensure the files end in .ny extension.

As always, do not run Audacity from the DMG installer.

If you are on Sierra 10.12.1 or later, run the following in the Terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Audacity/

I'm on El Capitan. I had been thinking that these were shipped with Audacity. So that would mean that they shouldn't have to be enabled by add/remove effects then correct? That they should be showing up by default?
I have usually been installing by unzipping the zipped version, but have tried installing via DMG as well. I don't run from the DMG either. This actually started when updated from 2.1.1 to 2.1.2, previously used these plugins quite frequently, but they just vanished sometime around the 2.12 upgrade and since then cannot get them back either by reinstalling 2.1.2 or any of the alpha/nightly builds. I had kept 2.1.1 and zipped it up on external drive, and to test I recently unzipped and launched it and these plugins are present and visible on that version. So am really confused as to what happened to affect just these particular ones. I'm almost certain that all other Nyquist plugins are working in 2.1.2 and above, which makes it even more confusing to me.

The effects shipped with 2.1.2 are listed in the Manual:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/inde ... yzers.html. Classic Filters mentioned there has to be enabled with Add / Remove Plugins, even though shipped. All other effects not listed there have to be enabled with Add / Remove Plugins.

If you delete pluginsregistry.cfg you will be left with the shipped effects minus Classic Filters, which will have to be re-enabled.

If you have been editing the Steve plugins, you may have corrupted them.

Be sure the file names of all the Steve plugins end in ".ny" (without quotes).

Be sure you unzipped the extra Steve plugins that are not shipped with Audacity.

If you are still stuck, delete pluginregistry.cfg and audacity.cfg from ~/Library/Application Support/audacity/.

Get the latest 2.1.3-alpha build from the top of http://www.audacity.homerow.net/index.php?dir=mac/. This is an all-in-one app, with no "Audacity" folder. The shipped plugins are now inside the bundle (right-click or CTRL-click then "Show Package Contents"). But for now, simply launch 2.1.3-alpha and see if you can see the shipped Steve effects in the Effect Menu.

The Effect menu will be all one long menu because you deleted audacity.cfg. Don't group the menu by author. Don't add any non-shipped Steve plugins. Let's see first if you can see and use the shipped plugins you want.

Gale Andrews wrote:Or it's possible that files in the Audacity app have the xattribute "xattr com.apple.quarantine" set. This means that Gatekeeper blocks them. To fix it, open a Terminal (Applications > Utilities : Terminal.app) then type or paste:

Code: Select all

sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Audacity/
and hit ENTER on your keyboard. Type your admin password (you won't see it on the screen) then hit ENTER again.

Please let us know if this helps (and the answer to Steve's question about whether this is a first installation of Audacity). Also is Sierra an upgrade over a previous version of Mac OS X?
The third option just worked for me on a fresh re-install of 2.1.2 - Macbook Pro cleaned of Audacitys prior to install

Sierra was upgraded from El Capitan and later updated by Apple to 10.12.2

First two workarounds didn't work ...
