I can't get anybody to show me the rear of the mixer, but if it's "normal," you have analog stereo outputs as either big, three-pin XLR

Or RCAs like my mixer.

Unless you have a Mac MINI or an older Mac, you have no provision to record stereo music. The connector is the one on the left.

Some Macs can switch one connector to multiple jobs in Systems Preferences, but if you bought your Mac in the last two or three years, it's probably just not there.

You should know that Audacity checks for new connections and devices when it starts. So either restart Audacity or Transport > Rescan...

Can you point to a web page that has a picture of the rear of your mixer?

And before you get all excited, most new Windows machines won't do this either.

From the Pioneer site:
The sound card supports three different sampling rates (96kHz/48kHz/44.1kHz) and ASIO/Core Audio standards.
The signal output path from the mixer can be easily modified using its setup tool via a computer

USB sound card functions can be used by installing the driver software and setup utility software from the included CD-ROM.
Drivers are here:
http://www.pioneerdj.com/en-us/support/ ... 0/#drivers

The USB is on top, not on the back.

The USB is on top, not on the back.
Stuck in analog-land.

So at minimum, the mixer connection should show up in Mac System Preferences, yes? And once there, it's just a matter of restarting Audacity and matching the config.

I dunno, Koz. The docs mention Core audio compliance and ASIO. But what does "Core audio compliance" mean, exactly?

But nothing to be found for the drivers on the Mac, if needed. It seems you need the setup app to set sample rate and bit depth. Windows need ASIO, so that won't be much good with Audacity.

But I don't have a DJM handy to test. So there seems little sense for me in installing the driver.

Seems to mean on the Mac you only need the setup.app...

Are you on at least OS X 10.11.1? USB audio was quite broken in 10.11.0.

You could connect the mixer by USB cable and show us a screenshot of /Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI setup with the mixer selected and the Input section for the mixer selected.

Also show us the contents of Help > Audio Device Info... top right of Audacity.
