fade- overlap track?

Help for Audacity on macOS.

yes, that's correct, but a significant difference between the two is that when there is a split, the first song will always fade to silence, and the second song always fades in from silence.

If there isn't a split, then one of the fades will either start or end abruptly unless the selection contains exactly the same length of the first song and the length of the second song.
OK, that's much clearer (to me) than saying that the split line ensures a smooth fade with no further explanation.
